The work relates singer's obligation to assist, based on the moral responsibility of the rich to help the poor, and food security. to ensure sufficient and healthy food for the growing population, which should be around 10 billion people in 2050, food production will have to increase between 60-70% worldwide. however, it is necessary to ascertain who will pay the account of feeding the world population in the future. poverty among smallholder farmers, who produce most of food consumed in the world, and the climate crisis, with shortages of natural resources and global warming, put agriculture and food production in check. in addition, the agri-food megacorporations decide what is produced and consumed throughout the world. nevertheless, the quoted issues are interposed on companies profits. the thesis exposes the power exerted by corporations on the food system, and how power is exerted over those who already suffer, the rural poor. singer's moral philosophy was the paradigm chosen in the work. it is divided into normative ethics and applied ethics. in singers normative theory, the origin of ethics, the criteria of universalizability, the point of view of the universe, and the principle of equal consideration of interests underlie the obligation to assist. in applied ethics, singer's moral motivation theory presents reasons for acting morally. the work of peter unger and thomas pogge, on the responsibility to assist, grounded in assistance or contribution principles, establishes how different agents might be required to act, and levels of their responsibilities. on the effective altruism approach, the concept of effective giving was exposed by theron pummer in his ethics of giving, and some effective causes were illustrated by william macaskill to compare ordinary and effective donations. the analysis of hunger and poverty challenges -including food and agriculture challenges- and of power exercised by agrifood corporations in the food system, are introductory to present the articles written by commissioned scientists. among the article's subjects: the owners of mars incorporation, through the commissioned thinktank called farmer income lab, proposes to identify what works to increase the income of the smallholder farmers. the thesis inquires whether the assumed task can be considered as recognition of the moral obligation to assist the poor as proposed by singer. the second article, by corteva agriscience, argues the urgent need of more investment in research and development for agricultural innovation (r&d). it states public-private partnerships (ppp's) should be made between corporations and the governments of developing countries to these investments. agricultural innovation is presented by corteva and its associated companies as a way to solve poverty among smallholder farmers, to mitigate the effects of climate change and to ensure food security. the evidence and arguments offered in the article are problematized in the thesis. the alleged necessary changes in the food system, proposed by corporations, are a discourse in conflict with the smallholder farmers. on the one hand, the companies commissioned scientists to investigate the causes of poverty among farmers, interventions to increase their profits, to ensure the farmers will continue producing raw materials for their industries. and the corporations propose public-private partnerships (ppps) to funding r&d for innovation. on the other hand, the smallholder farmers call worldwide for rights over land, seeds and crops. in the thesis, singer's obligation to assist the poor is applied in the scope of presented issues.
